Which nonprofits rank as having the most assets in Rhode Island?

Christ Barnett with the Rhode Island Foundation -- who is in the top ten with $736,167,411 in assets for the last fiscal year -- spoke to his recent experience.

"We get many more requests than we fund. Grant proposals go through a rigorous evaluation. Those that best align with our strategic priorities receive grants," said Barnett. "Last year, we gave 1,400 nonprofits a record $34.8 million in grants, so there are a lot of success stories."
What of the colleges and hospitals?
"Large nonprofits are under increasing pressure to step up because of their wealth, not only in the form of revenues for government, but in the form of heightened civic engagement and greater contributions to local communities," said nonprofit expert Larry Kaplan

The data was researched through ProPublica's 'Nonprofit Explorer" -- the entities that were ranked included colleges, universities, private schools, foundations, hospitals, healthcare, arts, and charitable community organizations.
The list does not include assets reported by credit unions, retiree healthcare funds, and certain trusts that pertain to out of state interests.
