In GoLocal's Most Dangerous Intersections in New England 2014, Connecticut's highest ranked crossroads rank #1 -- for the region.

New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport were on the top ten list; as were Wethersfield, and Seymour. "All of our crash data is available to the public, media -- it's public, it's all out there," said Kevin Nursick, Director of Communications with the CT Department of Transportation. "I've been here ten years. I'm a communications guy -- I try to keep people in touch with reality. "

And Nursick's reality? "Realistically, there's no such thing as a dangerous road," said Nursick. "And statistics prove that 95% plus of crashes are a result of driver error. I don't care if you have perfectly straight or flat roads, or curvatures. If you follow the rules of the road, and the posted signage, you shouldn't have any problem navigating."

Nursick talked to the work that the CT DOT does however to address issues when possible -- and mentioned one incident prompted some major changes

"We had a big project on what we call "Avon Mountain" in West Hartford -- it's a really big hill. A dumptruck lost its rigs coming down the hill, plowed down and killed 5 people instantly. We then put in a "traffic calming project" -- trees in the center, raised median, trees built in to get people to slow down."
