Artist Matt Almeida joined GoLocalProv.com News Editor Kate Nagle on LIVE to talk about “Drawn to Heal,” his initiative where he makes drawings from photos people send him — and then donates half of what they choose to pay to the charity of their choice.

“I’ve been drawing pretty much my whole life — it started when I was very little reading comics and Star Wars…I want to UMass Dartmouth where I majored in illustration,” said Almeida. “I got older and realized this thing about legacy and what I’d be leaving behind and wanted to leave behind something — I was always a supporter of leaving things better than you find it and that’s how Drawn to Heal was born. I’m not a great thinker, I’m not going to cure cancer or come up with some amazing medical procedure, but I realized hey I can draw pictures and donate from them.”

“People can go on the website or through Instagram at “Drawn to Heal” or facebook.com/drawntoheal and request a drawing — typically it’s a picture of their dog or loved one or a car they had when they were younger — so they send me a picture and I draw it and they get to pay whatever they want, and I donate half to charity.”
