“It's a story of courage that has lasted over two thousand years and not enough people know about it,” says Providence based composer Bob Schlink.

He was inspired by the true story of Celtic queen Boudicca and felt compelled to tell her story in an inventive and powerful way; a heavy metal opera.

Schlink says Metal is the perfect style of music to portray the violence Boudicca and her people endured after the Romans tried to overtake her people.

Schlink also utilizes Celtic and choral music throughout the show, and even hand-crafted the ancient instruments that are played during the performance.

“Queen Boudicca: A Metal Opera” will be performed at the Fringe PVD Festival on July 27 & 29 at the Waterfire Arts Center.

Playing the role of “Queen Boudicca” for the July 27 performance will be GoLocal LIVE’s Arts & Entertainment editor, Ava Gaudet
