Trent Theroux

Rhode Island native Trent Theroux was run over by a motorboat while kayaking at night in Narragansett Bay in 2002.

In April, Theroux published a semi-autobiographical novel “Fillet to Finish- An Awkward Journey to the Ironman."

Theroux says the book takes people through the accident and along his road to recovery.

“People want to hear a real story,” Theroux says, “I left it as unfiltered as I could. I wanted people to feel in the water with me, I wanted them to feel what it was in the hospital.”

Propellers severely damaged Theroux’s back leaving him paralyzed. The book details the accident, his recovery and his journey through accomplishing a list of items that he was determined to accomplish in life.

Theroux also announced on LIVE he registered to swim the backstroke in the English Channel.

Previous swims Theroux completed included Back to Newport, a 41-mile swim around Aquidneck Island, and Back to Block, a 13-mile backstroke swim to Block Island.

Both swims were fundraisers to benefit RISE Above Paralysis.
