Fung on GoLocal LIVE Says Raimondo Fails to Take Responsibility for Failures
Wednesday, June 06, 2018
Cranston Mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate Allan Fung blasted Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo for failing to take responsibility for the recent administrative failures at the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), when he appeared on GoLocal LIVE.
Fung spoke to Raimondo’s placing the blame on the senior EOHHS attorney — Gregory Hazian — who stepped down after the major legal oversight which could end up costing the state more than $24 million was brought to light.
When asked if Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Beane should step down following the fallout, Fung said, “Absolutely” — and went further.

Fung spoke to Raimondo’s placing the blame solely on Hazian
“Same old Governor Raimondo and [deflecting], not taking responsibility for what she has done, costing our taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Fung. “Own it, Governor — this is ridiculous. We expect more out of our leaders.”
On Monday, Raimondo addressed the press to respond to both the administrative failures — and criticisms of political opponents. See Video HERE.
Calls for Changes — and More State Issues
Fung spoke to both what he and the Rhode Island Republican Party see as the need to reorganize EOHHS, and have its underlying agencies — DCYF, Health, Human Services; and Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals — to return to reporting directly to the Governor.
“We’ve got to blow that place up. It was nothing more than political patronage when they created that cabinet position in the first place. Steven Constantino was the first cabinet director…then Elizabeth Roberts…then Eric Beane,” said Fung. “All of this has not led to efficiencies. It’s created more debacles out of the one department that has so much money for our most vulnerable. Let’s have it report back to the Governor.”
Fung also addressed the article in GoLocal which unveiled Raimondo is slated to attend a fundraiser in New York City on Thursday — by one of the most infamous tobacco lobbyists in recent history.
“It shows that this Governor’s out of touch with all of us. All she wants is to hobnob with these rich elites, whether its Mr. Tisch, this tobacco king who told…little fibs before Congress,” said Fung. “But we’ve seen big money individuals with no connection to Rhode Island (giving to Raimondo).”
Fung also spoke to Cranston surprising Warwick as the state’s second-largest city.
“We’re now the second largest community in Rhode Island — growing the right way, without millions of taxpayer dollars,” said Fung — who said the advancement is not related to the city counting prisoners in the numbers.
“The prison population is going down. Everyone loves to say that [about the prison population],” said Fung of the reasons for the population increase “The last [prison] count was 2700. In the past, it had been over 3000.
“We’re growing. Garden City picked up a 100 new residents coming in. And not a single taxpayer dollar went into Garden City and Chapel View — we did it in the right way, and that's the leadership I want to bring to the Rhode Island State House,” said Fung.
PawSox, and More
Fung said Tuesday that he does not support the revised legislation to provide taxpayer backing for the Pawtucket Red Sox to move from its current location at McCoy Stadium to the location of the Apex building adjacent to Rt. 95.
“I still don’t support it,” said Fung. “First and foremost this project will still have some sort of taxpayer dollars attached to it even though its structured a bit differently — I worry about the failure of repayment back to the redevelopment agency."
