Hitting the streets to promote social justice: don't miss this year's Race Against Racism 5K Run/Walk, Oct. 7, in Woonsocket.

Whether you're a runner or a walker, it's time to lace up those sneakers and join fellow Rhode Islanders in a great cause. The 2nd Race Against Racism is coming to Woonsocket on Sunday October 7, and here's a chance to put some real good into your upcoming Columbus Day weekend.

Registration is now open for the 5K run/walk, which will be held during Woonsocket's annual Autumnfest celebration. The entry fee is $25 and $27 the day of the race. Proceeds from the race will support community and racial justice efforts.

Hitting the road for social justice

Race Against Racism at Autumnfest is intended to unite people of all races, demonstrate our community's commitment to eliminating racism, and celebrate our diversity, according to YWCA Rhode Island, lead organization of the event.  Proceeds from the race will support community and racial justice efforts.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. First place age division winners are also awarded for male and female finishers (no double dipping).

Community groups united

The Race Against Racism is organized by YWCA Rhode Island. Race Partners include: RiverzEdge Arts, NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, Family Resources Community Action, nriAHEC, Connecting for Children & Families, Thundermist Health Center, Landmark Medical Center, Autumnfest, Woonsocket Prevention Coalition, and CopsWalk 2012

Sponsorships are available. To register to run/walk or participate as a volunteer contact YWCA Rhode Island at (401) 769 - 7450 or visit the race website www.raceagainstracismri.org.
