Five stars and three up-and-comers will receive top honors as Rhode Island political women in a new event sponsored by the YWCA of Northern Rhode Island.

The first recipients of the Isabelle Ahearn O'Neill Award - Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, Senator Rhoda Perry, former Attorney General Arlene Violet, former Senator Lila Sapinsley, and Representative Anastasia Williams - will be honored at the Women Holding Office Celebration at Bryant University on April 5.

Rising stars honored as well

Three more women will be recognized as rising political stars - Representative Grace Diaz, Representative Deborah Ruggiero, and Woonsocket School Committee Member Vimala Phongsavanh. And all elected women in attendance will be recognized for their service to our community.

Tickets to the event are $25, limited to 200, and must be purchased in advance. To purchase online, go here.

YWCA Northern Rhode Island is committed to supporting women who hold office, women planning to run for office or becoming involved in campaigns, and encouraging women to become more included in the electoral process.
