Women’s Wilderness Weekend Jan 21-23
Saturday, January 08, 2011
Time to get wild this month, and support an outstanding cause along the way.
On January 21-23, the Women's Wilderness Weekend at URI's W. Alton Jones Campus will feature winter survival, snow shoeing, winter plant identification and orienteering. Indoors, participants can learn the ukulele, explore dream interpretation, play Mah Jongg, and engage in a variety of art activities.
Did we mention that there are massage, reflexology, tarot readings, and facials available?
Service project always an important component
To make the weekend even better, the event's traditional service project will be collecting items for the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. All participants are encouraged to bring an item from the Center's wish list.
The entire weekend costs $185 per person, and that includes meals, lodging and workshops. RI PBS members are entitled to a $15 discount (some workshops may require a materials fee). Scholarships are available on a limited basis.
Great women's weekends for 35 years
Wilderness Weekend of RI has run outdoor weekend getaways for women for 35 years, with emphases on self-development, fellowship, and some fun outdoor skills. Each year, WWWRI conducts three weekends, Friday through Sunday afternoon. The retreats are at the 2,300-acre W. Alton Jones Campus of the University of Rhode Island. The campus contains trails, lakes and farmlands in addition to the state-of-the-art Environmental Education Center facilities. The Campus is wheelchair accessible, has a lodge with a fireplace and several meeting/class rooms. Rustic cabins are heated and have showers and bunk beds. The meals are served buffet style and vegetarian options are available.
