Women’s Playwriting Festival Lures Best & Brightest

The 15th International Women’s Playwriting Festival at Perishable Theater in Providence kicks off tonight, officially launching the theater’s 2010-2011 season entitled: It’s Women’s Work! This year’s events include three world premiere one-act plays by some of the nation’s most exciting women writers, including Laura Jacqmin, Kit Idaszak, and a former Women’s Playwriting Festival winner, Mary F. Unser.
Three Weeks of Events
The festival, running October 1-23, was founded with the sole mission of providing women playwrights the opportunity to develop and produce their new work with a professional team of artists, and receives hundreds of submissions from around the world. Connecting Rhode Island audiences with some of the most dynamic and cutting-edge women writing for the theatee today, the festival will also include staged readings by local women playwrights and late-night cabaret performances by Perishable’s Resident Artists.
