It can be a tough medicine to swallow, so make filing your taxes this year a little sweeter with our day-by-day guide.

So we've all got April 15 blazed into our brains, but that falls on a Sunday this year, so you've got a few extra days to get those returns (and checks) off to the IRS… 'til midnight April 17 to be exact. But we're here to take the sting out of the weekend (and the final two days) with special deals and inspirations to make your tax burden just a little lighter.

Friday: Get Zen

Let's get in the right mood heading into tax weekend. Kick it off on Friday evening with Rock Your Chakra!, a two-hour session at Jamestown Arts Center that is one part yoga class, one part dance session. It's $25 for the whole evening, and just $10 for the dance party. Jamestown Arts Center, 7-10pm, 18 Valley St, Jamestown, 401-560-0979, www.jamestownartcenter.org.

Saturday: Set the Tone

Now let's really cut loose. Rev up your tax weekend with listening to Get Lucky, one of New England's best and most versatile cover bands, which holds court on Saturday night, April 14, at the Rhino Bar in Newport. Save your pennies… there's no cover charge. The Rhino Bar, 337 Thames St, Newport, 497-2836.

Sunday: Comic Relief

We could all use a good laugh after doing our taxes. If you've got it wrapped up this weekend, check out Pauly Shore from HBO at the Comedy Connection on Sunday night. 8pm, 39 Warren Ave, East Providence, 401-438-8383.

Monday: Bet the House

Feeling desperate? Feeling flush? Either way, Monday and Tuesdays are the weekly qualifiers for the $100,000 Slot Tournament at Twin River Casino. You'll play for 2 minutes and accumulate as many points as possible--at the end of the tournament day, the top 5 scores will advance to the semis. The finals are scheduled for April 28. For more information, go here. 100 Twin River Rd, Lincoln, 877-827-4837.

Tuesday: Tax Day Specials

There's some great Tax Day freebies here in Rhode Island, so don't miss them. In celebration of the tax season, PF Chang's will reward guests with a 15% discount on April 17 (111 Providence Place, 401-270-4665). Panda Express is offering a free order of its new Shanghai Angus Steak on Tax Day (get the coupon online, here), 400 Bald Hill Rd, Warwick, 401-736-0920. Chili’s is offering a free appetizer or dessert with an adult entree purchase when you show this coupon April 16-18 (multiple locations in RI, click here to find them). Boston Market’s tax relief plan offers guests a free individual meal with the purchase of an individual meal and fountain drink with this coupon (633 N Main St, Providence, 185 Sockanosset Cross Rd, Cranston). If your own wings don't feel too clipped by the IRS, stop in at Hooters in Warwick for its Tax Day Special on April 17th, where they're offering 20 boneless wings for $9.99. That's an instant refund, right there. Warwick Hooters, 667 Airport Rd, Warwick, 401-732-9464.

Finally: Drink It Off Artfully

What better timing than this month, when L'Apero at the Providence Art Club, a cozy bar, does its monthly 3rd-Tuesday opening to the public. The clubhouse is across Thomas Street from the First Baptist Church, look for the big green door (#11). The beautiful bar is on the second floor in the main exhibition room. It welcomes all artists and their friends and the drinks are reasonable. 5:30-7:30pm, 272-6243.
