Magic Lantern Cinema Presents: From Mouth to Hand

Featuring films and videos by Martin Arnold, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Amy Halpern, Peter Kubelka, Sara Magenheimer, the Motormouth Robot KTR-2, Sarah Pucill, Martine Syms, and C. Spencer Yeh. 

Yet the distinction so prized by philosophers, which would relegate the mouth to the archaic and bestial while lauding the hand as our spur to civilization, seems everywhere undercut by the attributes they share. Mouth and hand are the vehicles of speech, making something like communication possible; they have equal capacity for tenderness and violence; they are predisposed to gesture, hence they are expressive. Changing the Conversation: America's Gun Violence Epidemic 

St Joseph's Church Presents A Community Screening & Conversation. This past year Saint Joseph’s Church community was deeply affected by the death of a parishioner’s family member to gun violence in our city.  As a result of this tragic loss the Saint Joseph’s Parish Council embarked on a mission to become better educated about gun violence and learn what steps were being taken by city and state officials, as well as Rhode Island citizens, to curb gun violence.  We are hosting the film “Changing the Conversation: America's Gun Violence Epidemic” in an effort to have Aquidneck Island faith communities band together to discuss joint efforts to stem the tide of gun violence.
