Jane Pickens Theater Presents “The Last Play at Shea”

In an effort to raise money to replace the failing heating system of the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport, the Friends of the Jane Pickens Theater (JPTF) is hosting a special screening of the documentary, The Last Play at Shea, tonight at 7:30 pm.
Billy Joel and the Shea
The Last Play at Shea, which premiered last month, documents the parallel stories of Billy Joel and Shea Stadium and culminates with an in-depth look at the stadium's last performance given by Joel in 2008, a year before the building was torn down. To tell the stories of these two New York icons, the documentary features narration by Alec Baldwin and interviews with music stars such as Paul McCartney, Roger Dalty, and Steven Tyler.
Saving Local Icons
The screening itself will parallel the overall message of the fundraising event, which is to honor and preserve local, historic icons like Shea Stadium and The Jane Pickens Theater.

The replacement is estimated to cost $50,000 and will ultimately play a role in preserving the historic building. The fundraising event will also feature an optional pre-party at Vanderbilt Hall with an undisclosed special musical guest.
The Friends of the Jane Pickens is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect the Jane Pickens Theater.
