Rhode Island's own Ann Hood spent her whole childhood reading, and much of her teenage summers on the beach at Scarborough. You can't take the reader, or the beach, out of this far-flung novelist, who just got back from Italy with her family. The beach calls, and she's got these new books packed and ready to go. Foreign Mystery: I have to say even though I'm not a big fan of Sweden, I am of Stieg Larsson. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest is the third book in his Swedish triology. These are incredible, and this is the final one. For real. The writer died!
Medical Intrigue: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. For anyone (like me) who loves medical trivia... plus it's a human interest story.
Smart Girl Stuff: The new Aimee Bender novel, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. I love her. She usually writes short stories. Reading this will make you smarter.
Roman a Clef: American Wife, the fictionalized story of Laura Bush by Curtis Sittenfeld.
I didn't want to read it originally, but I just started it and couldn't put it down. Perfect for summer!
