Summer Beauty: Kissable Lips

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

We all want the perfect pout that just will not quit. See how you can get the most kissable lips this summer with tricks from RI makeup guru Kristin Greene.

Slough It

Lips, just like the face and body, can get built up with dead skin that will affect how lips hold makeup. Use a lip scrub (we love The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ, $24, The Apothecary Newport) to slough off dead cells. You can also use a toothbrush to get those lips kissably soft. Follow with lip conditioner (our favorite is Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15, $22.50, Facing Thayer, Providence) to keep lips moisturized and smooth.

Set It

After exfoliation, you want to treat your lips like you would your face: establish a base. Use concealer (the same one you use under your eyes) and dab onto the lips to neutralize color (try Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer, $7.50, drugstores). Follow with powder to set the stage for your lip color.

Swipe It

Next up is lip color! Greene recommends using a lip liner one shade darker than your natural lip color to give you an area to work with (a color that works for most is MAC

Spice, $13, Nordstrom at Providence Place). When using lipstick, apply with a lip brush (go get Sonia Kashuk’s Retractable Lip Brush, $6, Target) for a more flawless application, then add gloss. A gloss we adore that is locally made by Ava Anderson Non Toxic (Ava is from Barrington!) is Tutu Lip Gloss, $8.95.

Smooch It

You now have the perfect lips for a night on the town or a romantic evening in! So smooch away with your kissable and oh-so-perfect pucker!
