Stella Marie Soap Co. and Narragansett Beer Create Natural Soap Bars
Saturday, August 07, 2010
Only tenured Rhode Islanders will recall the age-old, 1950s commercial depicting a well-tressed woman washing her hair with Narragansett Beer, but the brewery is revisiting the beauty biz by pairing up with Providence’s own Stella Marie Soap Company for a skin softening surprise.
By integrating Narragansett (better known simply as ‘Gansett) Lager with Stella Marie’s all-natural ingredients, including olive oil, coconut oil and spring water, Stella Marie has produced a soap that promises a “punchy” lemon fragrance thanks to a dose of lemon zest. The secret to its success is the beer’s hops. An herb, hops are known to promote relaxation, which is why it is a central
ingredient in many natural remedies for treating both anxiety and insomnia. Used topically, hops are used as anti-inflammatory, which is why the soap promises to soothes the skin.Selling like hotcakes, the company is considering adding the special soap to their main line. The nearly 6-oz. bars of the locally-made beer-meets-beauty soap, which are vegan, are sold for $6 and are selling furiously at farmers markets, festivals, online at Stella Marie Soap Company and through ‘Gansett’s online shop.
