SEEN: Taylor Swift, Lena Dunham + More

Thursday, May 30, 2013

A social animal this Memorial Day weekend--Rhode Island's newest property tax payer Taylor Swift.

Summer is fast approaching in the 401, and you know what that means: beach weather and celebrity sightings! Enjoying the warm weather in Westerly on Memorial Day weekend – near her newly purchased $17M mansion – was superstar singer Taylor Swift, who strolled the streets and did lunch with a group of friends at the Olympia Tea Room in Watch Hill. Accompanying Swift were her besties Lena Dunham of HBO’s Girls, British singer and Swift’s touring partner Ed Sheeran, actress Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit, actress Jessica Zhor of the CW’s Gossip Girl, and Dunham’s boyfriend, Jack Antonoff, guitarist in the band fun.

Back in Providence, commencement weekend at Brown University was equally star-studded. Graduating from the University as an undergrad this year was Scout Willis, who toasted with champagne flutes post-ceremony with her father, actor Bruce Willis, her sisters, Tallulah and Rumer, her stepmother, Emma Hemming, and Rumor’s boyfriend, Jayson Blair. Mysteriously absent from Scout’s entourage was her mother, actress Demi Moore. Also receiving a degree from Brown last weekend – an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts – was actor, producer, and director Ben Affleck, whose film Argo won Best Picture at the Oscars this past year. Affleck celebrated onstage with a fist-pump, revealing to his audience that he’d never before received a college degree. Congratulations, Scout and Ben!

Speaking of graduates, one of RISD’s best-known recent alums – actor, writer, and jack-of-all-trades James Franco – drops a music video to VICE, as part of the duo Daddy. The other half of the duo is Franco’s RISD classmate, Tim O’Keefe. The video features footage from Franco’s recent film, Spring Breakers, including teen starlets-gone-wild Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine.

Lastly, spotted at Mohegan Sun were iconic boy bands New Kids On The Block, 98 Degrees & Boyz II Men, who kicked off their summer-long “The Package Tour” last weekend. Fun fact: the members of NKOTB rocked Boston Strong/Boston Bruins jerseys during their set! Also at Mohegan Sun recenlty: "Big Ang" Raiola, of VH1's hit shows Mob Wives and Big Ang. Raiola visited Mohegan Sun for a Reality Check event, which attracted more than 250 fans for a free Q&A segment and autograph signing.
