Seen: Meryl Streep + More Celebs in the 401

Local fashionistas may have already spotted the shores of Charlestown in the background of photographer Annie Leibowitz's stunning new January 2012 Vogue cover featuring none other than Meryl Streep. It's the first time the award-winning actress has been featured on the cover of the American edition of the legendary magazine (although Streep famously channeled Vogue editor Anna Wintour in The Devil Wears Prada in 2010 and appeared on the cover of Paris Vogue that year). But we've heard through the grapevine that not only is America's finest actress hitting RI's shores for photo sessions, she's also spending the holidays in the 401… in Newport. One of the City by the Sea's florists was chez Meryl getting the place decorated for the holidays. (And did everyone notice Leibowitz's apparent fondness for our shores? She shot Vogue's December 2011 cover featuring Charlize Theron in Rhode Island as well, along the Newport coast)...

Speaking of island news, our sources tell us that Paula Abdul, who was reported here making a gracious appearance at Brown University several weeks ago for her nephew's soccer game, is now dating a Jamestowner and is becoming a 401 regular on Conanicut Island. We wonder who will be the first to spot her with her famous bedazzled Pepsi can purse, her signature swag that ties into the soft-drink sponsorship of the US X Factor...

And if you were missing your weekly Pauly D sighting, wait no longer. Rhode Island's biggest reality cheese was spotted this week on his way in to Shark, the sushi-fueled

eatery on Thayer Street near Brown University (he also spent some quality time up in Boston shopping at Louis Vuitton at Copley Place). Maybe Pauly's taking some much-needed hometown time after wrapping his new, not-yet-named Jersey Shore spinoff show, which follows the DJ on a six-week road trip that includes a pass through the 401.

Prediction: Within five years Pauly D won't have two quarters to rub together and will be working for the state (perhaps alongside the much more talented Peter Manfredo)
