Don't forget he was ours, first... P-Bruins star (and Stanley Cup winner and standout Bruin) Brad Marchand joined his teammates for some well-deserved partying in and around the region after sending the Canucks packing last week. Insiders spotted Marchand et al. at nearby Foxwoods on Saturday, where they received a $100,000 bottle of champagne when they rented out Club Shrine on the premises. Hope it tasted as good as clinching Game 7 in Vancouver, Brad...

Mmmm, meat! Vegetarians look away, because this month Providence is all over the Food Network show Meat and Potatoes, hosted by celebrity chef Rahm Fama. First, two weeks ago the show featured seasonal Wayland Square bistro La Laiterie. Executive chef, the “Prince of Pork” Matt Jennings, showed off his beer-braised pork belly sandwich served with crispy, handmade polenta fries. Just last week the special Ragu Napoletano, essentially a fancy spaghetti and meatballs dish with Kobe beef and sweet Italian sausage, at Pane e Vino made the show’s menu. And this coming Monday, tune in at 10 PM to see head chef Matthew Gennuso of the Chez Pascal food truck, better known as Hewtin’s Dogs Mobile, displaying his dexterity with cured meats, plus his famous homemade sausage on a stick. Carnivores can drool over the sumptuous meaty offerings of our Rhode Island chefs, while everyone else can just enjoy the local sights, like Roger Williams National Memorial Park and Grant’s Block.

In other TV food news, Brown grad Chef Jody Adams, owner of well-known Boston restaurant Rialto, was a guest diner on the season finale of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters that aired last week. No wonder Providence is emerging as a food capital of America…

The “Woonsocket Rocket” is back! Rocco Baldelli has officially begun his new job as talent scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. The former outfielder and designated hitter for the Rays and the Boston Red Sox (for only a year, but still) is now traveling the country finding young star players and assessing their swing, stance, and future as potential MLB athletes. As a teen himself, Baldelli first went to La Salle Academy in Providence, then played for the Rhode Island Tides, and then earned all-state honors in baseball, volleyball, indoor track, and basketball while attending Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick. A first-round draft pick in the 2000 amateur draft, he had a bright future in the sport, even coming in third for Rookie of the Year, until a mysterious muscular/metabolic disease caused him to retire after only seven years due to injuries and poor health. His experience and insight as a newly retired player are already coming in handy in picking out the most promising new players, and maybe he’ll even find some future all-stars one day in Cumberland, where he currently has a home…

Although he returned to the States from Italy over the weekend, don’t expect to see DJ Pauly D around Johnston any time soon. The cast returned from filming season 4 in Italy, and although Pauly D will have his debut night as resident DJ at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, on Sunday he will be back with all his Shore buddies in Jersey to film the fifth, and probably last, season of Jersey Shore. Pauly sure has been busy, from getting into “just for fun” fights with Vinny a few weeks ago to joining his fellow cast members in negotiations for bigger salaries from MTV. Now that everything has been worked out, you can tune in for the season four premiere at 10 PM on Thursday, August 4 to see how a Rhode Island boy handles Italy…

And speaking of DJs, DJ Tek is on his way to becoming one of America’s hottest DJs. He just won the award of “Rhode Island’s Best DJ” from the Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll for the third year in a row, which is no surprise considering how popular his nationally syndicated Streethop Mixshow is. He isn’t just an entertainer though; he uses his press to raise awareness about at-risk youth and other charitable organizations. In addition, he’s been seen on ABC’s Body of Proof with Dana Delaney (which filmed in Rhode Island) and Law and Order SVU and has opened up for such big-name acts as LL Cool J and Chris Brown. The media mogul is already one of New England’s biggest club/on-air personalities, and he shows no signs of slowing down. You better watch out, Pauly D!
