Back in September, we spotted Kevin Bacon eating at Brickway on Wickenden Street in Providence. Now, his wife has been seen in the exact same place. Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick from The Closer was seen dining down at Brickway last weekend. Her daughter with Bacon, Sosie Bacon, is a sophomore at Brown University, and she is also a member of the all-female acapella group The Ursa Minors. The group performed with Brown’s other all-girl groups The Chattertocks and Brown’s Tones in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Get Lucky Archsing on Saturday, which is probably why Sedgwick was visiting. It’s nice to see a normal, functioning, celebrity family for once….

The only deaf woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress was in town on Thursday. Marlee Matlin appeared at Bryant University in Smithfield as the keynote speaker for the school’s annual women’s summit. In addition to acting, Matlin was the runner up on NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice (on the same season with Newport native Richard Hatch), and although she didn’t win, in one episode she raised $986,000, the most money ever raised for a charity in a single TV event. Also speaking at the summit was Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s talk show Morning Joe. With these two powerful women speaking, there’s no way the students of Bryant walked away uninspired…

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? saw Coventry’s own Jeremy Blais walk away from the hot seat with $250,000 in February. Well this week two more Rhode Islanders took on the challenge, to varying degrees of success. Dawn Sheehan, a registered nurse at Kent Hospital in Warwick, won $17,000 from the show. Justin Vacca, a residence hall director at the University of Rhode Island, only won $1,000. Also, Genevieve Tubbs, a URI doctoral student who lives in Providence, competed on March 7, and Jason Crossley, a carpet installer from Hope Valley, appeared on Feb. 20. All of these lucky contestants made it to meet Meredith Vieira from the tryouts held in Providence back in October, and there are still more to come…

Pauly D is about to get a lot busier. His own show The Pauly D Project is premiering March 29, and it was just announced that Jersey Shore has been renewed for a sixth season. After the news that Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is pregnant, it was unclear if the show would be returning, but apparently the producers decided to go through with it, baby-bump and all. The pregnancy will obviously impact the show (no more vodka shots for Snooki), and MTV said “there will be new themes to explore.” In addition, Snooki has asked the Johnston DJ to DJ her baby shower. She apparently also asked him to DJ in the delivery room, but he declined. I wonder how the doctor would have felt about fist-pumping in the birthing suite…

In music previews, Folk-rock supergroup Crosby, Stills, and Nash are going to be playing at the Providence Performing Arts Center on June 15 as part of the CSN Summer Tour. The group made up of David Crosby Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash has been around since 1968 (and played their first concert at the Woodstock Festival in 1969), and they're still making new music and touring for old and new fans. Tickets are going on sale on Friday, March 30, and $1 from each ticket will go to charity. No word yet on whether or not Neil Young will make a surprise appearance…

Also, make sure you head out to the Warwick Mall tonight for an American Idol viewing party to support South Kingstown’s own Erica van Pelt. She was in the bottom two last week despite giving a great performance, but managed to win America’s vote and proceed into the final 10. The party is being held in the mall’s Food Court, and the food vendors will stay open throughout the broadcast. The show starts at 8 PM and voting opens at 10 PM, so you should vote for her even if you can’t make the party…
