Jonathan Silverman enjoys some sweet treats in East Greenwich last week, with Tony Verdi (left) and Chad Verdi (right).

It was no Weekend at Bernie's in East Greenwich, but TV and film star Jonathan Silverman was on hand, shooting Self Storage, a new Chad Verdi film. Silverman is known not only for having appeared in the Weekend at Bernie's cult films, but also having starred in his own series, The Single Guy, on NBC. The genial actor was in town for the first week of filming of the thriller written and directed by Cranston native Tom DeNucci. While filming in East Greenwich and Cranston, Silverman stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick and spent time on Main Street in East Greenwich, enjoying ice cream at Searles Olde Tyme Ice Cream and lunch at La Maseria Restaurant, and even a very RI trip to Gregg's in North Kingstown.

Silverman's got another gig coming up--a small, supporting role in a new David E. Kelley hospital TV series, called Monday Mornings on TNT. Who's starring? None other than Silverman's wife, actor Jennifer Finnigan.  Wait, there's more. Expect Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts and actor Michael Berryman in town in the next few days, as they arrive for their roles in Self Storage.

Tennis fan and ardent amateur Gavin Rossdale takes in the scene at Newport's International Tennis Hall of Fame.

And while actors were hard at work in the center of the state, Newport continued to lure in celebs of all stripes (or perhaps, whites) at the International Hall of Fame, for the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. All eyes were on rock and roller Gavin Rossdale, a huge tennis fan and quite the player himself, by all accounts, who was spotted cheering on American tennis star Sam Querrey. Rossdale, known best as the lead singer and guitarist for Bush and Institution, is also an actor, not to mention the husband of Gwen Stefani. Rossdale and Stefani are also friends of tennis players Lindsay Davenport and Roger Federer. At the 2010 Farmers Classic in Los Angeles, Rossdale teamed up with Michael Chang, playing against Jim Courier and comedian Jon Lovitz.

Even though Rossdale can turn a head, all eyes were on tennis superstar Jennifer Capriati, who arrived to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday. The 3-time Grand Slam champion grinned graciously on the podium, receiving her honor from 2009 Hall of Famer Monica Seles, but found it impossible to fight back tears as she accepted her honor. "The is one milestone I thought I'd never achieve," she said.

And the love-fest between RI's own DJ Pauly D and 50 Cent continues, as 50 let the world know via his Twitter this week that "The homie @DJPauly D is now officially part of the SK movement." For those who don't know what 50's talking about, SK Energy Shots is an energy drink with a mission: for every shot sold, the company started by 50 Cent provides a meal to a hungry child via the UN World Food Program. "That's why SK stands for Street King," says 50 in the company's promotional materials. "To give ruling the streets a whole new meaning." With Pauly D on board, that means RI streets are part of that mission.
