Hey, hey, hey! Bill Cosby was at Newport’s historic Rosecliff Mansion last Thursday night for the Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc. Gala to celebrate the new non-profit organization and raise money for the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals. Cosby hosted the event, while such icons as Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and Pete Seeger performed. Cosby plays the drums himself and is a devoted jazz fan, so it was appropriate that the gala occurred on the same weekend as the jazz festival. The festival started off at the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Friday, then moved to Fort Adams State Park for Saturday and Sunday, with such special guests as Grammy-award winner Esperanza Spalding, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Coleman, and the Mingus Big Band. Hopefully Cosby’s participation in the event helped raise funds to ensure that both festivals would continue to bring great music to Rhode Island for a long, long time…

Speaking of Newport, hot comedian Louis CK was in town this weekend as well playing to sold-out crowds at the Newport Yachting Center. CK's critically accaimed show, Louie, just got renewed by FX for a third season, so he might have had an extra spring in his step (he tweeted the news from Newport). Reports were that he enjoyed a boatride on the water with his daughters before his back-to-back Saturday shows, and tucked in at the Hyatt while in

town. The Emmy-nominated comedian was also spotted attempting to edit his TV show in between sets, but was missing a crucial firewire. The man never rests...

And before he shows up in Providence to be honored by the Rhode Island International Film Festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, Goodfellas star Paul Sorvino was spotted shopping on Thames Street in Newport. Hope he wasn't picking up any decorative art, as Sorvino will leave Providence with a hand-blown and carved glass award designed by Providence-born glass artist and sculptor Anthony Cioe. Sorvino will accept his accolades and rub elbows up on... where else?... Federal Hill at D'Vine's Restaurant. Then it'll be off to Vet's to screen his latest film, Lily of the Feast.

earlier this year, and the big (BIG) episode airs tonight.  Watch Richman try out the triple murder burger (a triple cheeseburger with bacon, a fried egg, and more) at Providence institution Haven Bros. Then it’s off to Spruce Street for some heavenly grilled pizza at Bob and Timmy’s. Finally, Adam will meet up with the local rugby team the Rhode Island Rebellion and coach player Connor through the grueling Olneyville NY System Hot Weiner Challenge, which entails eating 15 fully loaded hot wieners in 15 minutes. Can he do it? You’ll just have to watch to find out…

There was running, rocking, and rolling in rainy Providence on Sunday morning. Providence’s first ever Rock and Roll Marathon got the city awake early and kept it up as the

runners of the half-marathon sped by a different band every mile or so of the race. The headliner of the day, who played at the finish line at Station Park, was upbeat pop-reggae-funk band Sugar Ray, led by Mark McGrath. But there were some celebrities in the race who weren’t part of the entertainment as well. Police officers Louis “Louie” D. Stravato of Bristol and Michael Naylor of Warwick, who came in fourth place on season 16 of The Amazing Race, participated in the marathon. Even though they had raced around the world on the show, they needed a lot of training for the 13.1 mile challenge, so they worked extensively with Boston marathon winner and former Olympic marathon runner Geoff Smith of Fall River. The duo didn’t win (that honor went to Providence College grad Kim Smith), but at least they got to run in a different kind of “amazing race”…

In other sporting news, one of the premier men’s professional billiards tours was in Providence this weekend. The Seminole Pro Tour made its third stop of the season at Snookers Pool Lounge and featured 64 of the world’s biggest names in pool, including Alex Pagulayan, Thorston Hohmann, and Darren Appleton. The tournament streamed live on the Seminole Pro Tour’s Web site, so fans could tune in live to see Shane van Boening take first place, and $10,000 in prize money. Some of the players stayed in Providence, while others stayed at the La Quinta Inn in Warwick. You don’t need a magic eight ball to know that the pool pros enjoyed their time in the Ocean State…

Now that the show is over, Bristol girl Jackie Gordon can tell all about her experience as a contestant on ABC’s 15th season of The Bachelor. “Nice girl” Jackie, who grew up in Warwick and now lives in New York, said that being on a reality show changes you more than you’d expect. She never fell in love with “the bachelor” Brad Womack, although she’s still friendly with many of the other girls from the show. She was eliminated in the sixth episode, but that doesn’t mean her “Bachelor” life is over. She is one of the contestants on the second season of The Bachelor Pad, which just premiered Monday night. She is competing, along with other eliminated Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants, for $250,000, and she’s off to a good start, winning the first challenge along with former Bachelor Jake Pavelka. Keep tuning in to see if Jackie can find love and success her second time around on TV…
