Never better: Roomful of Blues, helping out the cause in Charlestown.

One of Rhode Island's most beloved, and hottest, bands will put on a show for a great cause. The five-time Grammy nominated, award-winning band Roomful of Blues will be featured in a special “Get-Rid-of-the-Winter Blues Benefit Concert” at the Knickerbocker Café, 35 Railroad Ave in Westerly, on Sunday, January 15, the Sunday of Martin Luther King Day weekend.  The show will take place at a special 4 pm start time.

Precious land in South County

The event will raise funds for the Charlestown Land Trust’s campaign to purchase and preserve 27½ acres of land on the shores of Watchaug Pond in Charlestown so that the land may converted into a nature sanctuary with walking trails. The property, which has been used for decades as a camp for Camp Fire Girls and the YMCA, has been put on the market.  The Land Trust has received a matching grant of up to $367,000 from the Rhode Island Department of Environment Management to acquire and preserve the property and spare it from development. Information about the campaign is available at charlestownlandtrust.org.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at theknickerbockercafe.com and will also be available at the door. Food and beverages will be available during the concert.
