Rocking The Preppy at Newport’s Chace N’ Lulu Boutique

Saturday, May 22, 2010

The preppy look never really went out of style, but soon it will be the talk of the town. True Prep, the 30-year-in-the-waiting sequel to the renowned Official Preppy Handbook is on its way to bookstores at summer's end - putting author and Brown graduate Lisa Birnbach back in the lime (green) light.

While we wait, we're delighted to have the gorgeous classic fashion at Chace N' Lulu to get us ready for those book parties, preferably on broad lawns, laced with proper gin and tonics.

It's always summer it seems, crossing the threshold of this brightly cozy spot on America's Cup Avenue in the heart of yachty Newport.  And browsing the top labels of classic fashion - from Kate Spade to Jack Rogers and JPK Handbags... even Lilly Pulitzer stationery - among the pristine white beadboard and twinkly lights makes a girl feel like she's stumbled into the best guest room in the best guest house on Ocean Avenue. And she plans to play dress-up all summer.

Chace N' Lulu, 57 America's Cup Ave, Newport, 847-9151. And for Facebookers, friend Chace N' Lulu to get an inside peek at sale items (every good preppy appreciates a discount), not to mention announcements of recent shipments... who didn't want to know that those darling Moyna clutches were in, with anchor motifs, and could be monogrammed?
