The Mariners hold the #2 spot with the state's best student-teacher ratios and per-pupil spending.

Standing firmly in the #2 position in the Top High Schools ranking for the second year in a row, Narragansett High earns its gold-star ranking with the state's best student-teacher ratios (8 teachers per student) and spending per pupil ($17,982). Narragansett has also bumped up two of its NECAP scores from last year, posting a top-shelf 94% above proficiency in Reading, and a two-point increase in Writing, to 66%. While its SAT average scores all dropped from 2011, this wasn't enough to dislodge the school's solid position.

Narragansett's 10-year-plan to improve NECAP performance continues to pay off, as the rankings show. A schoolwide commitment to tightening expectations and accountability on all factors contributing to testing, including adjusting curriculum to support the requirements of NECAPs plus an advisory system built to support students academically, is the engine propelling the school's upward mobility, according to Daniel F. Warner, Narragansett High's principal. This 2009 RI Principal of the Year has overseen Narragansett's retooling since 2005, and NHS received the Regents Commended School Award for three years in a row, for posting gains in NECAP scores.

The winning combination: small class size and significant investment in every student, with an ongoing dedication to benchmark achievement. For the Mariners at NHS, it's working as well as ever.
