RI International Film Fest Announces 2016 Award Winners

Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival has announced the award winners from its 20th Festival that concluded on Sunday, August 14th at the annual awards ceremony held at The Metcalf Auditorium.
“This year’s Festival had a spectacular lineup of provocative and engaging new films and was a banner year for the Flickers’ screenings, forums, workshops, classes and parties,” added Shawn Quirk, RIIFF’s Program Director.
Over the six day period that the festival ran (August 9-14th), the Festival screened 273 films which included 96 world/United States premieres from 67 countries including France, Spain, Mexico, India, Italy, Palestine, Iran, Ireland, Germany, Russia, Nepal and others.

We hosted over 250 international filmmakers who experienced true Rhode Island hospitality,” said George T. Marshall, RIIFF’s Executive Director.

RI FILM & TELEVISION OFFICE DREAMMAKER AWARD
• Presented to Producer, David Permut.
FLICKERS’ SCREENPLAY COMPETITION AWARD
• Presented to Lukas Hassel (New York) for his screenplay “Galapagos.
GEORGE D. GANNETT LGBTQ INSPIRATION AWARD
Named in honor of former Flickers' Board member, George Draper Gannett, who helped steer the organization towards its multi-tiered arts focus and community outreach. The Award celebrates the passion of creativity within the world of Cinema and the Arts.

Presented to members of the community who have actively worked to support and promote the mission of Flickers.
