RI Favorites - Top High Schools
Tuesday, December 28, 2010
Within weeks of launch, and on the heels of a major look at RI's Top Lobbyists, GoLocal launched a series that blew away the numbers, went viral and generated more than 75,000 page views: RI's Top High Schools.
The state's first statistical analysis of all the public high schools in Rhode Island ranked the schools from first to last, and crowned East Greenwich High as the state's number-one school. EG edged out Block Island High for top honors, prompting much backfence conversation about the rivalry between the two top high schools based in well-heeled communities.
Another story, however, was Providence's Classical High School making the top 10 rankings (the only Providence public school to do so), and GoLocal went straight to Classical students for fresh, same-day video reaction.GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST
All the stories generated tremendous, early commentary on the site, as to what measures were fair, how NECAP scores should or should not be accounted, and what mattered in school experience. Overall, the series set a standard at GoLocal for numbers-based reporting that ignites conversation and engagement.
