That's a whole lot of drumsticks. This weekend, Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express trucks delivered 1,250 Thanksgiving turkeys and all of the fixings to 7 Boys & Girls Club organizations across Rhode Island. The delivery was one of nine stops on Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express route throughout New England and will ensure that each Club is able to feed hundreds of young members and their families who will have a special meal to look forward to this Thanksgiving. The Pawtucket Club is serving as the lead agency for this effort.

Last week, Stop & Shop delivered 1,000 turkeys to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

“During this time of year we are especially mindful of the work by the food banks and hunger relief agencies across New England as they help make the holiday season easier for our neighbors in need,” said Suzi Robinson, spokesperson for Stop & Shop New England Division. “As a food retailer, fighting hunger is an integral part of who we are. Stop & Shop is fortunate to be able to help thousands of families in the communities we serve.”

More than 20,000 turkeys donated

This November, Stop & Shop will donate a total of 21,000 turkeys to local food banks and hunger relief organizations throughout the Northeast with its Turkey Express program, feeding more than 200,000 people. Deliveries will run through Thanksgiving.

The Boys & Girls Clubs in Rhode Island enjoy a long legacy of serving Rhode Island's youth. Both the Pawtucket and Providence Clubs are among the first operating Boys & Girls Clubs in the country, established as two of the original 53 founding members of the "Federated Boys Clubs" in 1906. Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs in RI total seven organizations with Clubs also in Cumberland, East Providence, Newport, Warwick and Woonsocket. Collectively, they provide educational and recreational opportunities in safe, nurturing environments to more than 20,000 members and their families statewide.
