Providence Hotel Hosts Weekend Photography, Screenwriting Workshops

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Creative types can get even more out the arts landscape in Providence during two special weekend workshops offered at Hotel Providence this spring.

April 2-3: Travel Photography: The Art of Cityscapes, will take any amateur photographer and unlock the secrets of moving from automatic snapshots to control of the techniques that will drastically improve images. The two days will begin with instruction on basics, move into the streets of Providence as a photographic lab of sorts, and return to Hotel Providence for uploading and critiques. Instructor Robyn Rowles, owner of "Artist in You" studio in Barrington,  brings experience as a shooter for BBC and other national news agencies.

April 16-17: Screenwriting: The Art & Craft of Writing for Film, reveals the specific techniques and structures it takes to turn storytelling into film. Participants will read and write screenplays over two days, with an emphasis on narrative work. From a quiz on screenwriting to writing exercises and with feedback, this will jumpstart any project for the big screen. Instructor Leigh Medeiros has won prizes for her screenwriting and taught at RISD.

Both workshops are $149 for locals who choose to eat and sleep at home. Whether you live near or far, $389 covers Single Occupancy ($569 Double) covers the course, accommodations, dinner, breakfast, and parking.

For more information, call Tricia Carter at Hotel Providence at 490-8144 or go online, here.
