The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, VSA arts Rhode Island, and the RI Teaching Artists Center are set to hold the 11th Annual State Finals for Poetry Out Loud, the national poetry recitation contest for high school students, on Sunday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
"The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is excited about Poetry Out Loud as one of the many ways that we provide arts opportunities for our young people. Each year students impress us with their heartfelt and moving interpretations of a wide variety of poems," said Sherilyn Brown, Director of the State Arts Council's Education Program.
The event will take place at the Metcalf Auditorium of RISD Museum of Art's Chace Center.

The event is free and open to the public.
The Prizes
The winner of the finals will receive $200, and the winner's school will receiver a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books.
The second place finalist will receive $100, with $200 for their school library.
The state champion will get an all expenses paid trip to compete in the National Finals from May 2 tot he 4 in Washington D.C.

Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools all over the country.

Two RI Hotels Named Among Top 20 In the World

50 RI School Cafeterias with the Most Health Code Violations

A review of over 350 cafeterias in Rhode Island by GoLocalProv has found thousands of health violations at schools and facilities across the state over the past three years.
Inspectors noted at some cafeterias observations that included lack of adequate hand washing facilities, accumulation of food and debris on equipment, improper food storage -- and open holes in doors and flooring.
