On The Couch: Novelist Ann Hood

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Rhode Island native and Providence resident Ann Hood is flying around the country this week, promoting the release of The Red Thread, her latest novel from W.W. Norton.  Taking a character from her best-selling novel The Knitting Circle, this narrative follows Maya Lange, who after losing her own daughter in a freak accident, opens The Red Thread, an adoption agency that specializes in placing baby girls from China with American families. Maya finds some comfort in her work, until a group of six Rhode Island couples share their personal stories of their desire for a child. Their painful and courageous journey toward adoption forces her to confront the lost daughter of her past.

Just in time for Mother's Day, Ann Hood sits down with Tracey Minkin to discuss the personal connection she has to her latest story.

Ann Hood is speaking and reading throughout New England this month, including this Thursday, May 6, at 6:30pm at Island Books in Middletown.  Look here for Ann's event schedule, and come back to On The Counch on Saturday for Ann talking about her childhood in West Warwick, knitting, and a big star who's turning The Knitting Circle into a film.

This is wonderful. It is just the kind of life style information I was hoping for. The beginning of the GO LOCAL book club. I loved the interview and the post with her reading dates.
