Just named to Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards for 2012, the glorious Ocean House. Photo: Ocean House
Citing Ocean House's $146 million makeover, "the property is as grand as ever," says T+L. "Expansive decks and manicured croquet lawns are a nod to old-world glamour, while the light-filled 49 guest rooms and 22 private villas have modern bathrooms (oversize soaking tubs; marble tiles) and custom-made dark wood furnishings. On the ground floor there's the farm-to-table Seasons restaurant, with a veranda overlooking a private white-sand beach-the perfect spot to idle away an afternoon, cocktail in hand. What more could you want for a summer getaway?"
Travelers name the best
T+L's annual ranking, which also names top destinations, airlines, cruise lines, river cruises, even car-rental companies, reflects the votes of its travel-savvy readers. In January of this year, Ocean House received a AAA Five Diamond Resort designation the same month it made the finals in the T+L survey.
Ocean House followed three high-end Colorado ski resorts for top honors this year: #3 Pines Lodge at Beaver Creek, #2 The Sebastian in Vail, and #1 Osprey, also at Beaver Creek. Behind Ocean House, Blackberry Farm in Walland, TN, rounded out the Top 5. The only other New England resort in this year's Top 10 was Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in Chatham, MA, which was ranked #9.
In the 100 Best Hotels in the World ranking for 2012, Ocean House was the highest-ranking New England property at #60, on a list dominated by exotic and far-flung luxury hotels (only 13 American hotels ranked above Ocean House in the list). In New England, Wequassett ranked #84, and the XV Beacon in Boston was ranked #93.
Insider Picks + Tips from T+L
Travel + Leisure picked Ocean House's Grand Deluxe Room 301 as its highlighted "room to book," for its "blue-tiled fireplace, freestanding bathtub with ocean views, and private terrace." And for T+L's inside tip for Ocean House: "Consider a visit in the off-season—moody skies, long walks on the empty beach, and cozy treatments at OH! Spa make for easy romance."

Isn't this great news? 80s/90s until we moved from RI to 'down here, Flahda', we always enjoyed a summer evening at the Ocean House.
Delighted to see it so elegantly recreated.
