North Kingstown’s Lafayette Band to Honor Veterans

Take some time this evening to commemorate servicemen and -women in the company of a wonderful Rhode Island band.
The Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will present its fourth annual “Armed Forces Salute” concert on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21st at 7pm. The free public concert will be held at the North Kingstown High School Auditorium. Freewill donations will be accepted at the door to help support the band’s operating costs and a portion of the donations will benefit the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Rhode Island.
A tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces
The Armed Forces Salute concert is a community tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces—past, present and future. Recognition will be given to all military members, veterans and family members in the audience that evening. Joseph R. Pelosi, Lafayette Band's Director, will lead the band through a stirring concert of patriotic and popular music. The Artillery Company of Newport Color Guard, R.I. Army and Air National Guard, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Korean War Veterans Association, and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets will participate in opening flag ceremonies and military memorial ceremonies during the concert. Additionally, there will be contemporary and historical military equipment, uniforms and memorabilia on display.

The Lafayette Band is a non-profit community concert band whose mission is to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Over 125 years old, it is one of the oldest bands in continuous existence in RI. Retired North Kingstown High School Band Director, Joseph R. Pelosi, has been the band’s conductor for over 45 years. Though based in North Kingstown, the band’s members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
