NEW: URI, RIC Named Best Public Colleges by US News

Rhode Island's public university, URI, is named the #77 public national university in the country, according to US News & World Report.
Based on its 2013 Top Colleges rankings, US News has now compared the nation's public institutions to each other in this sub-ranking. URI, which ranked #147 overall among National Universities in this year's US News ranking, was named the #77 Public National University. RIC, named #115 overall among Regional Universities/North, was named #36 among Public Regional Universities/North.
Top public colleges

Rhode Island College, the state's other public college, was ranked #36 among northern regional universities.
The Northern Region's Top public universities for 2013, according to US News, are the College of New Jersey at #1, SUNY-Geneseo at #2, and Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, at #3.
