A true seal of approval: the civic-minded Jefferson Award.

Know a true community spirit? Want to see them recognized for their commitment? Nominate them for this year's Jefferson Awards, sponsored by United Way of Rhode Island and NBC10.

The Jefferson Awards

In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard established The Jefferson Awards to honor individuals for their achievements and contributions through public and community service in order to inspire and encourage others to get involved.

From now through February 5, 2012, NBC10 and United Way of Rhode Island will be accepting nominations for local people who have gone above and beyond for their communities.  A panel of independent judges will review the entries and choose three winners who will be notified in April.  Entries will be considered based on outstanding personal acts and community impact.  The selectors will review acts of courage, vision, dedication and tenacity.  The Jefferson Awards highlight the “Unsung Heroes.”  Eligibility includes volunteers as well as paid professionals who are not normally in the media.
