NEW: Providence Top City in America for Romance
Thursday, September 08, 2011
Do you feel the love? You do if you live in Providence.
The capital city is one of the top 10 cities in America for Baby Boomer Romance, according to Bert Sperling of Sperling's BestPlaces. In fact, in the 2011 study of major American cities, Providence ranked #4 for Keeping That Loving Feeling.
Hottest city for the 45-60 set?
Pittsburgh, PA, took top honors, followed by #2 Salt Lake City and #3 Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC.
Sperling, in a study funded by... wait for it... Cialis... assessed qualities of grown-up love in the 2011 study, including number of married Boomers, divorce rate for the generation, ballroom dancing opportunities, floral, jewelry and candy sales, and great restaurants.
Is it the food, the jewelry?
And while you may think that Providence took its spot in the top 5 by merit of incredible restaurants, Sperling cites the metro area as containing the highest number of ballroom dance venues among the Top 10 cities. Further, Providence ranked #1 for jewelry purchased as gifts, perhaps as a nod to our legacy as the jewelry capital of the world.
The only other New England city to rank for romance was #6 Hartford, CT. Rounding out the Top 10 were Minneapolis, MN; Rochester, NY; Dallas and Houston, TX. Boston came in at #12. Last place among the 50 largest American cities? Memphis, TN.
