Providence College has been named a “Best Buy” in the 2012 Fiske Guide to Colleges for the first time in the college’s history.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges has only designated 49 such institutions nationally - 24 public and 25 private - as “Best Buys”. Providence College is the only Rhode Island institution to receive the designation and one of only two in New England.

What makes PC a best buy

To be selected as a “Best Buy institution,” the Fiske Guide to Colleges takes into account qualities such as academic ratings, cost, and quality of student life on campus.

“We are very pleased to receive the ‘Best Buy’ designation from the Fiske Guide," said Rev. Brian J. Shanley, ’80, O.P., president of Providence College. “The College prides itself on the overall quality as well as the price/value of PC’s total educational experience. We know how important it is in this day and age for students and families to spend their educational dollars wisely. This recognition underscores the fact that an investment in a Providence College education is money well spent.”

Some highlights from the Fiske Guide to Colleges about PC:
    •    Its strong Roman Catholic heritage compares favorably with similar cohorts nationally.
    •    All students must complete the Core Curriculum, including the signature Development of Western Civilization sequence that covers history, philosophy, literature, theology, and the fine arts over a two-year period.
    •    Ninety-seven percent of all classes have 49 or fewer students.
    •    Owing to the College’s strong Catholic identity, community service and volunteer work are popular activities.
