NEW: Princess Diana’s Royal Wedding Gown Arrives at Foxwoods
Monday, September 12, 2011
Royal-watchers, hold on to your teacups.
Princess Diana's royal wedding gown has landed in New England at Foxwoods Resort Casino, where it will be on display through the end of the year as part of the award-winning Diana: A Celebration exhibition.
For lovers of all things royal, it's an exhibit made in heaven. On loan from the Althorp Estate, the Spencer family's ancestral home in England, the dress joins 150 objects, ranging from 27 dresses worn by Princess Di in her public life as the Princess of Wales, to family heirlooms, personal mementos, paintings and rare home movies and photos.
Today was more royal pomp and circumstance, as Diana's gown's handlers, Nick Grossman and Graeme Murton, lifted the gown carefully from its crate to prepare it for exhibition. Grossman and Murton are the only people in the world who are permitted to handle the gown, and have been accompanying it and the entire exhibit for 10 years.
This is the exhibition's only northeastern stop, and will be on display at Foxwoods for four months beginning September 16.
