The Rhode Island Office of Higher Education and the Rhode Island Partnership Projects (RIPP) will be unveiling four new initiatives to improve college degree attainment in the state at a breakfast at the Providence Marriott on April 16.

Governor Lincoln Chafee and Commissioner of Higher Education Raymond Di Pasquale will host an invited group of dignitaries, government and business leaders, higher education officials, and students, to unveil the plans to close the skills gap -- and barriers to attaining advanced degrees -- in the state.

New York Times bestseller Dan H. Pink, author of Drive and A Whole New Mind, will be the keynote speaker.  Attendees will be asked to participate in small group discussions to offer their expertise and input on what will be needed to move forward the proposed RIPP initiatives.

Formed in 2012, RIPP is the collaboration of the Office of Higher Education and Dr. Dennis Littky, along with more than 40 education, business, and community leaders who have been working over the past five months to analyze data and propose potential solutions to address the barriers to higher education attainment.

According to RIPP, "The goal of increased degree attainment is a nationally researched and recognized effort to improve economic conditions for individuals, communities, states, and nationally," noting that per capita incomes are strongly correlated with levels of educational attainment.  Rhode Island will join other cities across the country who are working to increase the 21st century skills of their residents through improvement of bachelor's degree attainment.

Additional seating is limited.  RSVPs are required by calling Elaine Hackney at 617-470-4604 or emailing [email protected].
