NEW: Natural Balance Dry Dog Food Recalled Over Salmonella Threat

The US Food and Drug administration announced that Natural Balance Pet Foods has issued a voluntary recall of some of their dry dog food because it may be contaminated with Salmonella, which includes a recall in Rhode Island. The food was manufactured at Diamond Pet Foods, which has had an ongoing recall of dog food products since April 2012.
The company said that they have not received any reports of pets being ill from eating the food. Out of extreme caution, the company decided to recall the dog food.
Not all of the pet food is being recalled – only the ones listed with the matching codes and dates. See below for the Natural Balance Dog Food recall list. The Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison Dog, Natural Balance Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Dog, Natural Balance Vegetarian Dog, and Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Bison Dog brands have been named in this recall in various sized packages.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTThe dog food was possibly distributed to Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Canada. The company is working with retailers to get the product pulled from inventory.
Pet owners who have the recalled product should dispose of it safely. Pets could become ill from eating the food. Humans can become infected from handling the dog food, so make sure to wash hands well afterwards.
