NEW: Kathleen Last of Smithfield Claims $60 Million Powerball

Tuesday, April 03, 2012

Kathleen Last, a Smithfield woman in her 50s, has claimed the $60 million Powerball prize, according to the RI Lottery.

But the newest RI millionaire declined to show her face at this afternoon's announcement, sending her lawyer instead.

Ms. Last, who is taking the cash version of her prize, will receive $25,575,046. Her employment was kept private, as were her plans for the future. The Ohana Trust will be set up for the proceeds of the funds, which will also help support a disabled niece of Ms. Last. The Hawaiian monicker stems from a family vacation that was in Hawaii, according to Ms. Last's attorney.

The winning ticket purchased by Ms. Last at Quickets on George Washington Highway in Smithfield for the March 7, 2012 drawing, matched all six Powerball winning numbers. The Powerball winning lottery numbers for the ticket were 12, 35, 45, 46, 47, with a Powerball number of 12.
