As power outages continue to plague Rhode Islanders, local organizations are stepping up with creative bursts of generosity. Two favorites today:

Hot showers and battery charging at Cranston YMCA

The Cranston YMCA is offering free showers and battery charging to community members affected by the floods and power outages. Free showers are available from 10am to 12pm and 6pm to 8pm.

Administrators at the Cranston Y told GoLocalProv that these services will be available through Friday; if outages persist, they will post a new schedule. A photo ID and signed waiver are required.

Cranston YMCA, 1225 Park Ave, 943-0444.

More services from other YMCA's

Similar services are offered at YMCAs throughout the area including the Bayside YMCA in Barrington, Kent County YMCA in Warwick, Newman YMCA in Seekonk, and South County YMCA in Peace Dale. Further, several YMCAs are also offering child care and other activities for families.

Hot water shampoos in East Greenwich

The folks at Kenneth Cote Salon in East Greenwich want RIers to feel better while they manage no hot water in many parts of the state. To that end, Kenneth Cote is offering complimentary shampoos for all visitors who are still without power. "Just drop by," said manager Richard Bump, "no appointment needed. Bring your blowdryer and style your own hair if you'd like. No charge... it's on us."

"We want to share what we have with those of ou who are without," Bump said. "After all, we are family and that's what family does."

Kenneth Cote Salon, 333 Main St, East Greenwich, 884-2810.
