A lot of hair will hit the floor in Bristol on August 5, all for a good cause.

On that Friday, hairstylist and animal-lover Patrick Lomantini will be in Bristol for his 50 States Tour, a marathon event of traveling to all 50 states and giving 50 haircuts in each state, in 50 days. Lomantini will ultimately set a new Guinness World Record and he chooses to donate all proceeds to local charities.

“I hope to establish this tour by coming to Rhode Island and setting the standard for the rest of the country,” Lomantini said. “This tour is an act of kindness.”

50 haircuts in Bristol, funds for animals

Lomantini will give 50 of the 2,500 total haircuts at New Leaf Hair Studio in Bristol, and all of the money raised in Rhode Island will benefit the Bristol Animal Shelter. Lomantini asks for a $20 minimum donation per haircut.

“All of the money will go to local shelters and humane societies,” said Lomantini. “Their acts of kindness to animals that they do every day is exactly what we all could learn from.”

“Patrick Lomantini is so highly regarded so for him to have chosen the Bristol Animal Shelter is really exciting,” said Dyanne Gibree, Animal Control Supervisor for the Bristol Animal Shelter and president of the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter. “It confirms the positives that the Bristol Animal Shelter does to care for the animals that come to our care.”

A crucial time for funds

“This comes at a really exciting time because the town of Bristol is ready to break ground on the new Bristol Animal Care and Adoption Center,” said Gibree. “All proceeds from this fundraising effort will fund the new program. It would be awful if on one of Patrick’s first stops, all 50 appointments weren’t booked,” she added. “It is open to all Rhode Islanders, so if you want to be there, you can.”

Lomantini set a Guinness World Record in August 2010 by cutting hair for 72 consecutive hours at his salon in Wichita, Kansas. The event raised $1,625 for the Kansas Humane Society. “After my record setting event last year,” Lomantini said, “I wanted to share that experience across the country.”

There are 31 appointments booked at New Leaf Hair Stuido, as of Monday. Call 253-9333 to make an appointment.

“Setting a new record and doing something nobody else has done is always a thrill,” said Lomantini, “but most importantly my goal is to give help and hope to others… anything is possible.”
