This past Saturday at Firehouse 13 on a wonderful and magnificent day in Providence, a band who has been blazing a trail for greatness in The Rice Cakes celebrated the release of their stellar Floor Boards/Halloweenie 7" single for an experience that would stick in your mind like white on rice.

Tapestries' Mike DeCosta, Nelsonvillains and Boo City opened up the sold-out show and Firehouse 13 was filled to the gills with humanity of all shapes and sizes. Providence has had one hell of a music scene going on lately and The Rice Cakes are one of the many jewels in a cornucopia of audial excellence. If you were looking to feast your eyes on a night of brilliance, Firehouse 13 was the place to be.

Mike DeCosta

A musician who writes songs that are the epitome of heartfelt and real, the central nucleus of Tapestries in Mike DeCosta started off the show with his electric guitar and wowed the crowd. "The Fear", "Hal T. Richman", "Dreamy", "Road Trip" and "Gardenvision Pt. 2" had the audience in a spell of absolute brilliance. Mike will write songs that will melt the coldest of hearts, Tapestries has a new album coming out later this year as well. You better get it when it's released and find your next big music fix.

Nelsonvillains

Noisy, distorted rock & roll that will send chills up your spine, Nelsonvillains from New Paltz, NY came up next and exuded pure energy to the fullest. "The Last Four Months", "When The New Year Comes", "Secret Cigarette", "Blue Mirrors", "You're All I Need And You Won't Find Me", "Shaking Konfidense" and "Tylenol Suicide" encompassed a performance that brought the emotion and turned the amps up to 11. Nelsonvillains are putting out a brand new 7" single on May 7th going on their Bandcamp, give it a listen and hear one of the best kept secrets of the Northeast music scene.

Boo City

Black Country Rocksteady Soul, that set of words should tell you exactly who came up next. Boo City came up to the stage, brought the groove & the funk to get the people in the boogie. "We'll Be Just Fine", "Long Gone", "Whiskey", "Closer", "Take It Easy On Me", "Go And Tell Yo Mama", "Sugar" were part of a performance that had people shaking their hips all over the floor. You gotta see Boo City next time they play, it'll be a soulful experience unlike any other.

The Rice Cakes

To end the night of extravagant madness, The Rice Cakes went up last and infected the crowd with pure glee. "Humans", "Boys & Girls", "Magma", "In Search For Violent Hills", "Like Ass", "Yellow Fields", a rendition of Radiohead's "There, There" featuring Mike DeCosta on guest vocals that made everything exquisite, "Hate", "Halloweenie" and "Floor Boards" highlighted the rest of the performance that brought sheer beauty to the eye of every beholder. After a performance like that, you know there was going to be an encore. The Rice Cakes brought it back with "Zabudabudee" to conclude a concert that was amazingly awesome.
