Providence post-pop power trio Roses headlined an extravaganza at Local 121.
I'll be honest, I missed going to see live music at The Speakeasy located downstairs at
Local 121. Some of the best experiences I've ever had took place at the wonderful establishment nestled in downtown Providence and I'm glad that bands are once again gracing the stage after a 3-month hiatus. Providence post-pop power trio
Roses headlined an extravaganza with Austin, TX rockers
Mirror Travel joining in on the festivities. With one of the best venues back up and running with two spectacular acts, you couldn't go wrong with what took place at Local 121.
Mirror Travel
Garage rock with a lot of ambient tones and foot-stomping rhythms, Mirror Travel kicked things off with a frenzy of fuzzy distortion. There was some shoegazing going on too, you could notice a distinct My Bloody Valentine influence in their vibrant sound. I always find myself loving every band from Austin that I have the pleasure of seeing and Mirror Travel was no different. The drums and bass shook the walls while the guitar peeled the paint off of them. Mirror Travel also have an album currently available titled Mexico, I want to give it a listen and I suggest you should as well.
Roses
Bright lights flashing to the beats with eclectic grooves flowing throughout the room like a sonically charged river, the mood was just right to bask in the good vibes. Roses consisting of music scene vets Andy Tobiassen, Matt DeCosta and Nick Dawson had people dancing and romancing from the get go. A barrage of synth courtesy of DeCosta and Dawson accented by Tobiassen's surf-rock strums on guitar really made Roses an absolute treat. Contemporary and unique is the best way to describe this trio's essence, a different kind of pop with emotional intensity that's pristine. In the midst of all the folk, punk and "indie" bands in Providence, Roses are truly creating music that's unlike what a lot of other acts are doing. They have a self-titled EP currently available on BandCamp, go check it out and experience a revolutionary act in Providence. Kreepfest 2013
Come to the 1st Annual Kreepfest presented by Rambudikon this month to become part of a brand new Providence tradition! There will be over 20 bands performing, and featured guests include Our Last Night, The Venetia Fair & Trophy Wives! All bands are going to play at least one Halloween themed song.
