MUSIC: He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister at Fete

This past Thursday at the Fete Lounge in Providence, Los Angeles folk-rock band He's My Brother, She's My Sister headlined a unique indie show that aimed to please. Beach Day and Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain rounded out the bill for a bunch of acts that you don't see perform in Providence that often. On Thursday everyone was thirsty for great music, a good time and you know Fete always delivers.
Beach Day
Fellow Californians Beach Day kicked off the show with cool surf-pop rock sounds that definitely made me feel like I was on a time warp back to the 60's. "Come Back To Me", "Little Red Shoes" "A Little Weird" and "Boys" highlighted an energetic performance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Beach Day has a couple EPs, one is self-titled and another is titled Walking On The Streets. Grab yourself one of these little bad boys and start grooving.
Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain
A spectacular singer-songwriter from New York City who has a thing for creating comic books that always catch your eye, Jeffrey Lewis & The Rain came up next with just an electric bass and an electric guitar along with looping beats and a tiny keyboard to resonate an interestingly different sound that I liked a lot. "By Yourself", "Personal Things", "The French Revolution" which had Jeffrey showing a low budget "documentary" that consisted of him singing along to turning the pages a picture book showing cartooned images of the actual revolution, "Time Trades", "Reaching", reciting the poem "What Would Pussy Riot Do?", "Objectified" and another short "film" titled "The Dirty Bird" which was all about a couple watching an adult film about a parrot engaging in all kinds of debauchery encompassed one of the weirdly entertaining performances I've ever seen. Jeffrey Lewis has a comic book series called Fuff that you should check out along with a bunch of music you can find at thejeffreylewissite.com, it'll truly show you a whole new world that you've never experienced before.

A funky folk rock band with all kinds of flashy aesthetics that even had their drummer tap dancing on a floor tom while making the beats, He's My Brother, She's My Sister finished off the night with fantastic sounds coming from the stage. If you could ever think of a combination of Bob Dylan & The Band's Basement Tapes and Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie, this groovy quintet would absolutely be the end result. "Electric Love", "Can't See The Stars", a rendition of The Velvet Underground's "What Goes On", "Let It Live Free", "Lets Go" and "Tales That I Tell" were part of an electrifying performance that lit up the stage. He's My Brother, She's My Sister has a new album out titled Nobody Dances In This Town you gotta get your hands on, it'll make you shake your hips and do the boogie woogie.
