The infinitely entertaining Flow Tribe made sure fans got what they came for Friday night.

You gotta love a Friday night at The Spot, with the awesome bands always coming through you really can't go wrong. On this wonderful evening Flow Tribe from New Orleans headlined a show with Lucky Jukebox Brigade, The Denver Boot and Galactic Alliance filling out a bill that had them playing on two different stages. Wanna talk about the perfect way to start your weekend in Providence? Then you gotta start talking about The Spot.

Galactic Alliance

A psychedelic jam rock trio that'll leave you with an impression of being amazingly complex and completely unreal, Galactic Alliance started things off on the small stage and kicked major musical ass. With inventive guitar solos and catchy rhythms, Galactic Alliance had an excellent opening performance that set the tone. It wasn't the last of them though since they were playing in between the other acts throughout the night. If you haven't seen Galactic Alliance yet, they're one of those local bands that aren't a household name but the definitely deserve a listen.

The Denver Boot

I'm always a fan of the stories Billy Moretti tells while strumming his guitar, Tony Nimmo's ability to keep a steady rhythm while not being afraid to kick it up a notch, John Philip Marlowe's exquisite plucking skills on banjo and DJ Yglesias' skills on a cool blue Rickenbacker bass. As you can tell, I'm a fan of The Denver Boot. They came up next on the main stage for a handful of rocking and emotional numbers and I liked it, my only criticism is that I have no idea why Moretti decided to yell away from the microphone a few times while playing "I Disagree". Overall, "No Sorry", "Keep It Close", "Buyer's Remorse" and "Clue Me In" got me back into loving their set immediately. The Denver Boot are working on a new album and it should be out before the end of the year. From a few of the new songs they're working on I'm sure that it'll be as good as 6 to 9, 7...12 was.

The Lucky Jukebox Brigade

Galactic Alliance again exuded sheer brilliance for their second performance of the night on the small stage and then The Lucky Jukebox Brigade came up on the main stage. This insane gypsy-rock band with tinges of what I can only refer to as "Waitsy" (Listen to Tom Waits and you'll know what I mean) were full of intense energy that shook the floor. A 60's pop style that reminded me of groups like The Supremes also exuded from their songs, it's always interesting to see a band that's not afraid to mix it up while at the same time not straying away from what makes them very good. These up state New Yorkers definitely know how to throw a good time and I hope they come through Providence again very soon.

Flow Tribe

Galactic Alliance went up for the last time on the small stage and resumed blowing people's minds until Flow Tribe took things over on the main stage. A groovy funk-soul group with a lot of swagger, Flow Tribe's lead singer & trumpet player acted like James Brown on a psychedelic acid trip in his purple lime green suit. "Helping Hand", "Hungry For You", a version of Harry Belafonte's "Jump In The Line" and "Early In The Morning" were part of a 2-hour performance that had people cutting a rug on the dance floor all night. Flow Tribe has a new EP out titled Painkiller that you should get, it's gonna make your shake your hips and smack your lips.
