Desert Sharks, an all-girl garage rock band from Brooklyn, came to town and rocked the stage at Dusk.

On a sweltering Friday night, the best place to cool off with a refreshing drink and fantastic sounds was at Dusk in Providence. Local booking company General Assembly put on a show filled with music that soothed the soul and fried the mind. Gill Moss, Thunderbloods, Maritime Pilot and Desert Sharks were on the bill, with this amount of talent on stage you just knew it was going to be a good time right when you walked into the door. Summer has arrived and the best place to take a break from the heat was at Dusk to start the weekend off with a bang.

Gill Moss

A folk-rock band that I always enjoy seeing, Gill Moss started off the extravaganza with their mix of groovy and storytelling tunes that always aims to please. "Breakdown Lane", "My Dear, The Wolves", "Blow Up The Moon", "Go Fly A Kite", "Downcity", "Homewrecker", "True Lies", "New Girl", "Just Off Broome" and "Whiskey & Spoon" was simply exquisite, Naushon Hale and Leanne Luce's voices combine to form a perfect harmony that is pure joy to the ears. Gill Moss is always a treat to see live, go check them out next time they play your favorite music venue.

Thunderbloods

A bluesy and badass rock & roll band from Boston, Thunderbloods blew the roof off the joint with their explosive riffs. "Beers In Heaven", "Highway 69", "Spirit Dirtbikes", "Ghouls Gone Wild", "Noodz or GTFO" and "Mother Midnight" were part of an emphatic performance that had me loving every minute of it. Thunderbloods have a self-titled album available on their BandCamp page and they'll be playing next at Great Scott in Allston, MA on June 21st. So download the album and head up I-95 or take the T and see a great band at one of my favorite music venues in the Boston metro area.

Maritime Pilot

Next up was a band I've been wanting to see live for years and now I finally had my chance. Instrumental experimental rock quintet Maritime Pilot had me in shock by how they could fit so many progressions and riffs into single songs, truly a mystical experience watching these guys play. "We Fight Wars Of Ideals" , "The Streets Are Filled With Ticker Tapes And Widows" , "Soviet Launch Codes" and "The Wind Brings Death To Our Sails" had me sold, I can't wait to see Maritime Pilot play again. They'll be playing at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA with Deleted Arrows on June 4th, another show in the Boston area that you gotta go to.

Desert Sharks

An all-girl garage rock band from Brooklyn, Desert Sharks finished off the night and they sounded like a female version of The Sonics. "Cruel Pattern Vicious Cycle", "Come Home", "CrazyCrazy", "I Can't Catch My Breath", "Tequila Shark", "Banana Cats", "I Know What I Want", "Russia" and "For Loneliness Sakes" was a righteous finale to a great night. Desert Sharks currently have an EP titled Sister Cousins that you should get your hands on; log on to their BandCamp and download it to give your mind the jolt it's been missing. I always have a joyous time at Dusk and I guarantee you will too. Log on to duskprovidence.com to see what's going on there in the immediate future.
