Introducing Moms Can-Do's, a GoLocal weekly feature sponsored by Southwick's Zoo, for moms of little ones--from toddlers to elementary schoolers. Looking for fun things to do during the week? Creative spots for last-minute outings? Fun events especially for little ones? We'll bring you our 5 favorites in the region every Tuesday, and they're all within an hour's drive of home. Check out this week's mid-summer fun.

Carousel!

The Crescent Park Carousel is a National Historic Landmark and the 1895 creation of Charles I. D. Looff, the builder of the first American carousel. Called "the State Jewel of American Folk Art," the carousel is Looff's largest and most elaborate work, comprising 62 hand-carved figures and four beautiful chariots. Along with the carousel, your child can enjoy storytellers, the Blount Clam Shack, and on weekends, well-known face-painters Marc Kohler and Fran Slade. Wednesday-Sunday, 12-8pm. 700 Bullocks Point Ave., Riverside, RI.

Treetop adventure!

Feeling adventurous? The EcoTarium's Tree Canopy Walkway, is the only place in New England where you can explore the treetops 40 feet in the air, harnessed and clipped to a series of swinging bridges spanning 150 feet. Find out what's living in the treetops and learn about the kinds of trees in the forest. And of course, you need a way to get down, right? Big Nazo!

Mix and mingle with some extraordinarily creative creatures at the Providence Children's Museum! Big Nazo Creature Show & Tell will see the performance group give an interactive puppet demonstration, culminating in a cosmic creature dance party in the Museum’s Children’s Garden! Thursday, July 25, 1-3pm. 100 South St., Providence, RI.

Kites & Parachutes!

Nothing to do today? Your little one can learn the ways of the wind at the Discovery Museums' AirPlay Tuesday, where they can design their own parachute or kite! They'll get to explore air resistance and figure out how to improve the design for higher and longer flight–and a soft landing! Tuesday, July 23, 11am-12pm. 177 Main St. (Route 27), Acton, MA.

Owls!

Ready to make a new friend? A naturalist from the Rhode Island Audubon Society will visit the Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library to introduce the owls of New England–and will be bringing a feathery friend along! This fun presentation is made possible with support from the Andrew Greene Memorial Fund. Thursday, July 25, 6:30pm. One Memorial Ave., Johnston, RI.
