Mixed Magic Theatre Presents Modern Classic ‘For Colored Girls’
Wednesday, February 19, 2014
Pawtucket's Mixed Magic Theatre will be presenting Ntozake Shange's Tony-nominated play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Previews begin this Friday, February 21st.
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide is a seven-woman ensemble production that Jonathan Pitts-Wiley, Artistic Director at Mixed Magic, dubbed a "contemporary classic." The Broadway production in 1976 was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. The play has been subject to a recent film production, Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls.
The production will feature both familiar faces from other Mixed Magic shows and new talent from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The director, Jackie Davis, comes to Mixed Magic from Boston where she serves as Artistic Director of the New Urban Theatre Laboratory in Boston. "She's passionate, and has a great vision," said Pitts-Wiley. "We're very excited about having her talent."
